About the Burmese

The Burmese cat was named after its place of origin Burma.

There have been many theories how Dr Thompson came into posession of the burmese in the 1930's. It was said the Dr Joseph Thompson imported a small brown cat called Wong Mau and a breeding program was constructed with the assistance Virginia Cobb, Billie Gerst and Dr Clyde Keeler. She was then bred to a Seal point Siamese and the results were two colours one like the siamese and the other darker like herself, then Wong Mau was mated to her son and resulted in three colours from this litter. And consistant breeding of these offspring came the colours we know and love today.

Burmese are slim, athletic cats with short silky coat and golden eyes. There are various colours including; brown, blue, lilac, chocolate, cream, red, lilac torti, blue torti, choc torti, and brown torti.

Burmese are known to be the dog of all cats. The ladies (or mans)  best friend of the house. They are an affectionate cat, they love to sit on top of you and get any sort of affection they can, they will follow you round the house, and some say they even understand their cats when they talk. They can be a vocal cat- but not quite like the siamese.

Bumese are the ideal pet for a range of different people. They are exceptionally great with the children, as they dont mind being carted around lke a ragdoll, any attention to them is great. They do need a scratching post of some sort to save your couch or floor rug and they require minimal grooming.
